In a significant step towards engaging the private sector in the Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) reform, the Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FNCCI) Bagmati Province Chapter organized an event titled "Private Sector's Role in Implementing the National Vocational Qualifications System" on June 3, 2024. The event, held in Hetauda, was conducted in collaboration with the Bagmati Province Ministry of Social Development (MoSD).

The event attracted an impressive turnout of 120 participants, including chairs from 29 Chambers of Commerce and Industry (CCIs) across 13 districts, leaders of commodity associations, and key government officials. Honorable Minister Kumari Moktan chaired the event, emphasizing the provincial government's strong commitment to advancing TVET and facilitating skills certification for the skilled youth in the province.

A highlight of the event was the commitment shown by members of the CCIs, including Mr. Dil Sundar Shrestha, Chair of FNCCI Bagmati Province Chapter, who signed a commitment board pledging to certify the skills of their workforce. This collective commitment is seen as a crucial step in the implementation of the National Vocational Qualifications System (NVQS).

The event marks a significant milestone in TVET reform, uniting provincial government and industry associations to revamp the TVET landscape. The Nepal Vocational Qualifications System Project-Phase II (NVQS P-II) has been instrumental in this initiative, supporting the National Skill Testing Board (NSTB) at the federal level and MoSD/Es at the provincial level to implement NVQS. NVQS P-II is a bilateral initiative between the Government of Nepal and the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC), with Swisscontact providing technical assistance on behalf of the SDC.

This collaboration underscores the vital role of private sector involvement in achieving a robust and effective vocational qualification system, ensuring that the workforce is certified and skilled to meet the demands of the evolving job market.
